Wetenschapper Benes, die voor Amerika belangrijke informatie bezit, wordt na een aanslag waarin hij in een coma raakt naar het CMDF gebracht. Deze instantie beheerst de techniek om voorwerpen en mensen tot microscopische grootte te reduceren. Als blijkt dat de enige manier om Benes te redden het van binnenuit verwijderen van een bloedstolsel in de hersenen is, wordt een team samengesteld dat het stolsel moet gaan bestrijden. Ze krijgen hierbij de beschikking over een moderne atoomonderzeeër, die samen met het team verkleind zal worden waarna men deze zal injecteren in Benes.
